If you love Todd Rundgren, you probably know that most of his records don’t sound all that great. Even a die hard fanboy has to succumb to the truth now and then. This one’s an extra credit project, because it pretty much sold out on 2019s Record Store Day. However, a few copies lurk on the internet, and you might even get lucky enough to get a sealed one. You should, if you truly cherish TR.
Rundgren admits, both in person, and in the liner notes of this box, that “he’s not really a singles guy,” yet here are all the tracks and B-Sides that were released. Rundgren pays homage to the B-side, saying “A good B-side is also a glimpse into what the rest of the album might be like, sort of, thank you for coming in the shop – now allow me to show you something in this corner.”
But back to the sound. With lacquers produced at Bernie Grundman Mastering, this is the punchiest set of Todd tunes you are ever going to hear. Well worth a trip down the rabbit hole.
